Systems Assessment

The process

Find where the problem starts - then decide what to do about it.

An assessment traces the problem to its root cause, whether that turns out to be the software, the data, the way work moves through the business, or the people doing it. You get a single-page diagnostic with the findings and your options for next steps.

1 Schedule a Conversation Define the problem
2 Find the Real Problem Systems, data, process, people
3 Blueprint Delivery One-page diagnostic
4 Next Steps Solving the problem
What happens at each step

Each step has a clear purpose. None of them are open-ended.

Schedule a Conversation

You describe what's happening. I ask questions to narrow it to the specific problem - not a broad review of everything, just the thing that brought you here.

Find the Real Problem

I examine how the systems are configured, how data moves between them, and where the architecture creates friction, gaps, or risk - whether that's a specific break or a structural issue. I also look at how people are working around it, because the workarounds usually point straight at the real problem.

Blueprint Delivery

You get the completed Systems & Data Diagnostic - a one page summary showing the challenge, the root cause, and a step-by-step checklist to fix it. Larger assessments include technical appendixes.

Next Steps

A recommendation will be provided on the blueprint. From the blueprint, you will choose what happens next.

The deliverable

The Systems & Data Diagnostic.

One page. Four sections: the challenge, the diagnosis, the action steps, and your next steps from here.

Scope

Two types. Same one-page output.

Standard Assessment

A specific problem, traced to its source.

Right for businesses with a clear friction point they want understood and documented before deciding what to do about it.

Full Architectural Audit

A broader look at how everything fits together.

Right for businesses that have grown past their systems or are planning a significant change and need a full picture first.

Who this is for

If you're not sure what you need, this is a great way to get started.

  • Small businesses with a specific problem that isn't getting better - something that's been patched before but keeps coming back.
  • Mid-sized companies that have grown faster than their systems and need a clear picture before committing to a direction.
  • Anyone evaluating whether to buy, replace, or build software, and wants an outside read on the current state before making that call.
  • Anyone who has tried to fix this internally and wants it better than what it currently is.
  • Businesses where everything runs through one person, and the business can't grow past them.
How I work

Listen, understand, recommend, and act.

Before recommending anything, I want to understand what's actually happening. I want to see how the process works today, and I want to understand how it is supposed to work. I will ask follow up questions, keep asking past the first answer, and provide you a timely and actionable recommendation.
