Wise County, Texas

I fix the systems, software and data behind Wise County, TX businesses.

Whether that's two systems that won't talk, numbers you can't trust, or software that stopped keeping up - I figure out what's wrong and what to do about it.

The situation

When the software stops keeping up.

Wise County has changed a lot in a short time. Decatur still has one of the prettiest courthouses in Texas sitting right in the middle of the square, and this is still ranch country. But the county around it doesn't look like it did ten years ago. New people, new businesses coming in fast.

For a lot of them, the software and systems side hasn't kept pace. A spreadsheet that worked at eight people falls apart at thirty. A setup that handled one location stops making sense with two. Or the systems were never connected right to begin with - and one day you realize you can't get a straight answer out of your own numbers.

I can help when...

  • Your software doesn't do what you need it to do
  • You're entering the same information twice, usually into your accounting system and something else
  • Your numbers don't match across systems, or you can't get reports you can rely on
  • You don't know which products, services, or customers are making you money
  • You're exporting to Excel every time you need an answer you can trust
  • Your systems should work together, but don't
  • Everything runs through one person, and the business can't grow past them
  • The person who built your system is gone, and nobody else knows how it works
  • You're deciding whether to buy, build, or replace software
  • You need someone who speaks both business and tech
  • You've already tried to fix this and it's still not fixed
Past work

A few examples of what I fix.

Data and reporting

A business ran on a stack of systems that each reported their own numbers, and nobody knew which one had it right.

It came down to one set of numbers everyone trusted and worked from every day, instead of a stack of reports that never agreed.

Process automation

Every week a pile of emails came in that someone had to open one at a time, pull the details out of, and key into the system by hand.

The emails got read and entered automatically. Nobody opened them one by one, nobody re-typed anything, and the things that used to slip through when the pile got deep stopped slipping.

Technology leadership

A technology team spent most of its time reacting - jumping on whatever came in, no awareness of company priorities, no way to tell at the end of a week whether they were winning or losing.

The team moved to a structured weekly cadence with a clear priority system - company goals first, department work second, ad hoc last. Everyone knew each week whether they were ahead or behind, and projects actually finished.

Data and reporting

A business could see revenue but had no way to see what an order actually cost - ad spend to acquire the customer, actual shipping, actual cost of goods. Profitability was a guess.

A true order profitability report that covered the full picture from ad spend through fulfillment. For the first time, the business could see what an order actually made, not just what it brought in.

See all the ways I help

These are just a few of the problems businesses have brought me to fix.

How this works

Software, data, process, people - whatever it is that's broken.

Many businesses don't need a full-time systems and data person on payroll. What they need is someone who has already solved this kind of thing. That might be one conversation, a project with a clear outcome, or something ongoing. Whatever best fits what you're dealing with.

The work runs from getting two systems to talk to each other, to building reporting people can trust, to automating something a person does by hand every week, to figuring out what software to buy before you're stuck with it, to leading a team of technical operators. Some businesses want me to do the work. Others take the direction and run with it themselves.

People search for this in a dozen different ways. Whatever you call it - if it touches your software, your data, the way work moves through the business, or the people doing that work - it's probably what I do. If the printer won't print, that's not me.
